What's Happening Now
We’ve been teasing about it for a few months now, but we are proud to announce that our new Oris Solutions website is now up and running. We’ve integrated our software, training and services websites into a single seamless site that will address your needs in quicker, more efficient and more user-friendly way.
As we’ve noted for the last couple of months, EPA’s 10th Conference on Air Quality Models is coming up March 13-15, 2012 at EPA’s Research Triangle Park, North Carolina campus. These conferences have historically driven new modeling techniques, guidance, as well as models, so you can expect this one to be no different. One item eagerly anticipated by the modeling community will be the release of EPA’s draft PM2.5 permit modeling guidance. You can also expect to see a Federal Register notice formally announcing this conference by the end of January; the draft PM2.5 guidance will be released prior to the conference. EPA will also post a link to the conference on the Support Center for Regulatory Air Models (SCRAM) website. We hope to see you in Raleigh in March!
In other EPA news, new versions of AERMOD (11353) and AERMINUTE (11325) were released in December 2011. These new versions included mainly bug fixes. These new versions are included in BEEST 9.93.
Holiday Quiz Answers
Thanks to everyone who participated in last month’s Oris Notes Holiday Quiz. The answers are in shown in bold.
1. What terrain data formats are used in AERMAP processing?
Digital Elevation Model (*.DEM) and National Elevation Dataset (*.TIF)
2. Name any three boundary layer parameters created by AERMET.
Sensible heat flux (H), surface friction velocity (u*), convective velocity scale (w*), vertical potential temperature gradient above the planetary boundary layer (VPTG), convective boundary layer or mixing height (CBL), mechanical boundary layer or mixing height (SBL), or Monin-Obukhov length (L)
3. Name any two of the three new output options in AERMOD version 11059. (Hint: They work with only a limited number of
pollutant names.)
MAXDAILY, MXDYBYYR, MAXDCONT
Extra credit: Who wrote the A&WMA paper titled "The Plume Volume Molar Ratio Method for Determining NO2/NOX Ratios in Modeling" in 1999?
Patrick Hanrahan
Thanks to everyone who participated and congratulations to
the winners!
BEEST
BEEST version 9.93 was released on December 30, 2011. It includes the following enhancements:
- BEEST now supports running AERMOD version 11353
- AerMinute now supports running AERMINUTE
version 11325
- Updated tutorials on NAAQS modeling and exporting data to Google Earth
BEE-Line AerScreen
With EPA’s release of AERMOD 11353, we also updated BEE-Line AerScreen to version 2.01, which includes the new version
of AERMOD.
Special Offer for BEEST Users in Maintenance
Don’t forget that customers renewing BEEST can receive a BeestXpress coupon worth $75 as our way of saying "thank you" for staying with Oris. Speaking of BeestXpress...
BeestXpress
Oris is excited to announce that BeestXpress can now handle AERMOD input files created with the "out-of the box" EPA version
of AERMOD.
We also want to note that BeestXpress recently celebrated its 112,000th AERMOD run. Wow!
Remember, BeestXpress is a great time-saver, especially when you have a large AERMOD run, lots of smaller AERMOD runs, or you’re modeling to finalize the scope of a project. Give BeestXpress a try and see the difference it makes!
