What’s happening now...
A lot is going on at Oris, and we’ll go into detail in this issue of our newsletter. Here’s a sampling of what’s in store:
BEE-Line Software has just released version 9.83 of BEEST and the SO2Post postprocessor.
EPA has released new NO2 modeling guidance.
We’re offering a "two-fer" training of AERMOD and CALPUFF in Raleigh, NC in September.

News From BEE-Line Software
BEE-Line just released BEEST version 9.83. This version of BEEST has the following enhancements:
- Multiple hourly ozone files can be selected
- Up to 100 POSTFILEs can be selected
- Several improvements in importing input (DTA) files into BEEST
- BeestXpress runs can now include hourly ozone files
BEE-Line Releases SO2Post
BEE-Line recently released SO2Post, an AERMOD postprocessor that calculates design concentrations based on the form of the new 1-hour SO2 NAAQS (99th percentile of the annual distribution of maximum daily 1-hour concentrations, averaged over the number of modeled years).
This post-processor can be used until EPA releases their upcoming revisions to AERMOD, which includes capability to calculate these design concentrations directly, without the need for a post-processor. SO2Post is free to all BEEST customers and can be purchased by non-customers for $150 from our BEE-Line website.
Referral Program for BEEST and Professional CalPuff
How about saving money on your annual BEEST or Professional CalPuff maintenance fee? If you refer a non-BEEST or non-CalPuff user to us, and they purchase one or both of these programs, your next annual maintenance license will be discounted by 10%.
New EPA Guidance Memos
EPA released new 1-hour NO 2 modeling guidance memos on June 28 and June 29, 2010. Here are some highlights of the new guidance:
- Until rule making is completed, EPA has established an interim 1-hour NO2 Significant Impact Level (SIL) of 4 ppb (~7.5 μg/m3) for PSD applications.
- The 3-tiered approach for modeling the conversion of NOx to NO2 as described in the Guideline on Air Quality Models is still allowed, but is being applied somewhat differently for the 1-hour averaging period.
- "Air Quality Offsets" may be used to resolve modeled NAAQS violations.
- Emergency equipment and startup emissions are NOT exempt from the modeling analysis.
Webinar on New NO2 and SO2 NAAQS Modeling
Please join us on Thursday July 29, 2010 at 3pm CDT for a webinar on modeling issues associated with the new NO2 and SO2 NAAQS. We will go through some example model set-ups, tricks and traps, and how to use our new NO2Post and SO2Post postprocessor programs.
