What’s happening now...
The public Technical Session of EPA’s annual Regional/State/Local Modeling Workshop was held on June 9 in Atlanta. Attendees were treated to many interesting presentations such as the following:
- Ozone Limiting Method/Plume Volume Molar Ratio Method (OLM/PVMRM) review and analysis
- Generic facility modeling by the AERMOD Implementation Work Group
- Experiences with the new 1-hour SO2 and 1-hour NO2 NAAQS (including combining monitoring and modeling)
- Short-term emission rate variability
- The EPA Model Clearinghouse
- The upcoming draft PM2.5 permit modeling guidance
- Announcement of the 10th Conference on Air Quality Models
The 10th Conference is soliciting papers to be presented. Topic suggestions include overpredictions in low wind speeds with AERMOD; experiences with AERMET/AERMINUTE; sub-hourly modeling capability for AERMOD; distance applicability limits with AERMOD; and comments on the EPA’s draft PM2.5 permit modeling guidance. The 10th Conference will be held at EPA offices in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, October 27-28.
Another announcement of importance was that EPA will be producing a new version of AERSURFACE that will be able to use the 2001 and 2006 National Land
Cover Databases.
Don’t forget–you have two more opportunities to catch A&WMA’s Understanding Today’s Clean Air Act Permit Programs (Oris is a sponsor!). The next one will be August 30-31 in Seattle, and the final one will be October 5-6 in Indianapolis.

News From BEE-Line Software
BEE-Line AerScreen—Incorporates AERSCREEN v11126
Oris released BEE-Line AerScreen v2.00 on June 3. It incorporates EPA’s AERSCREEN v11126 (plus AERMOD v11103, AERMAP v11103, and MAKEMET v09183). Users in current maintenance can download it from the BEE-Line Software website by going to Support → Software Updates. This new version also allows you to incorporate either the OLM or PVMRM for NO2 modeling.
Although AERSCREEN is much more complex to set up and run than SCREEN3, our BEE-Line AerScreen—with its intuitive, user-friendly interface—makes it a snap!
Professional CalPuff—Free online webinar
With the release of our Professional CalPuff v3.00.0 and the release of the Federal Land Managers FLAG 2010 report, we thought it might be useful to have a free online webinar on July 28. Register here for the webinar.
BEEST—New version coming in July
Look for a new version of BEEST in early July. As usual, this will include bug fixes, upgrades, and enhancements suggested by you, the BEEST user community.
With the new release of AERMET v11059 and AERMINUTE v11059, new issues have arisen with processing meteorological data for input to AERMOD. Therefore, Oris will be presenting a free webinar on August 25 titled "Meteorological Data Processing with AERMET and AERMINUTE." Register here for the webinar.
By the way, if you’re curious about or need to know how well BEEST's AERMOD compares to the EPA’s standard version of AERMOD, feel free to check on some comparisons that we recently conducted and placed on our website.
