What’s happening now...
Spring must be in the "AER"! Wow, we now have a new version of AERMOD, a new version of AERMET, and a **brand new** processor from EPA called AERMINUTE. The draft user guides for AERMOD, AERMET, and AERMINUTE were released on March 4, 2011, and the final versions, plus the models themselves, should be out soon.
EPA also released a new modeling memo on March 1 which provides additional guidance on modeling for the new 1-hour NO2 and SO2 National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). Among other things, it provides more prescriptive information related to using the Ozone Limiting Method (OLM) and Plume Volume Molar Ratio Method (PVMRM) for Tier 3 NO2 modeling. You can read or download the memo.

News From BEE-Line Software
AERSCREEN
As previously mentioned, EPA has released the "final" version of AERSCREEN, version 11076. The major differences from the beta release include:
- The probe distance is now in meters, instead of kilometers;
- AERSCREEN can now support OLM and PVMRM for modeling NO2.
The user supplies an in-stack NO2 / NOX ratio and a representative ozone concentration;
- More quality assurance checks for the model input data.
A full list of the updates can be found here.
BEE-Line AerScreen will also be updated to reflect changes made to the beta version of EPA’s AERSCREEN. BEE-Line AerScreen users in maintenance can update their versions for free as soon as it is released.
BEEST Suite
The new version of AERMOD includes new keywords that
automatically enable the user to create model outputs that can be
directly compared to the new 1-hour NO2 and 1-hour SO2 NAAQS. It also includes a new processing routine for the PM2.5 NAAQS.
AERMINUTE is a new tool from EPA that will allow users to process
1-minute Automated Surface Observing Station (ASOS) wind observations
for input to AERMET. AERMINUTE-processed winds will help
reduce the number of calm and missing winds processed by AERMET.
Likewise, the new AERMET can handle hourly averaged
winds obtained from 1-minute ASOS data; it also includes longer
record and file name lengths; and enhancements for on-site data and
upper air data sites.
Obviously, with EPA releasing the new AERMOD, AERMET, and AERMINUTE,
we will incorporate those changes into BEEST as soon as
possible.
AWMA Clean Air Act Permitting Workshops
Oris is a proud sponsor of a series of Air & Waste Management Association
(AWMA) workshops entitled "Understanding Today’s Clean Air
Act Permitting Programs." The next one will be April 13-14 in Houston,
Texas. Subsequent workshops will be in Denver, Colorado (May
4-5); Seattle, Washington (August 30-31); and Indianapolis, Indiana
(October 5-6).
If you make it to one of the workshops, please be sure to stop by the Oris booth and say Hi!
